“A Close Look at Common Energy Claims”

This article by the editor of “Energy Design Update” looks at 11 popular misconceptions regarding energy and buildings.  For the most part, his information seems to have a solid basis in science and research.  This a thought-provoking look at common assumptions that don’t stand up to facts.

When talking about interior vapor retarders, he closes by saying that both kraft-faced and polyethylene are acceptable under the Energy Code in the US.  But he should have stressed that you should never use a polyethylene barrier in a hot, humid climate like the Southeast US.  Cold interior air from air conditioners will hit the warm humid air and cause big problems inside walls.
